Petition to add non-religious to the Social Work Code of Ethics
The non-religious is a marginalized population which is being ignored and unrecognized by in Social Work education, and practice. The non-religious as a group is growing in the United States and world wide. Social Work education and literature should not use the term "spiritually" as if it is all inclusive. Secular ethical communities such as; atheists, agnostics, pantheists, deists and other non-denominational non-religious deserve recognition.
The Social Work Code of Ethics States: "Social workers should obtain education about and seek to understand the nature of social diversity and oppression with respect to race, ethnicity, national origin, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, marital status, political belief, religion, immigration status, and mental or physical disability."
